Steps to becoming involved.

Whether you are interested in being a foster parent or you would like to volunteer as a driver there are several criteria that must be met.
Any individual involved with Caithkin must:
Provide a criminal reference check and a vulnerable sector screen.
Each adult foster parent applicant will complete a written questionnaire that is designed to evaluate their:

This questionnaire will also include a waiver granting permission for us to contact the local Children’s Aid Society to search your name through its’ database.

• Provide a minimum of three references per adult applicant.  This will include contact with any residential agency with whom the applicant has been involved.
• Complete a home inspection to ensure that the physical plant meets Ministry Standards.  In the event that there are any deficiencies, or specific safety protocols (i.e. water/pool, etc.) these must be addressed prior to final approval
• Participate in a personal interview meeting with the home assessor that includes all family members.
• Provide proof of up to date Driver’s License and all necessary insurance coverages.
• Provide documentation from the personal physician confirming that fostering presents no health risk to the potential care-giver or children.
• Participate in Caithkin’s orientation program which includes attendance at regular in-service training sessions as well as a Child Management Program.

Although this may seem like an arduous process it has been established to ensure that we each are adequately informed of the expectations prior entering into any formal agreement. 
Upon approval, a letter of acceptance will be issued.  At the time of your first placement, you will be asked to execute a Residential Treatment Agreement with Caithkin Treatment Foster Homes and this will outline Caithkin’s and Your responsibilities.
Volunteers who are interested in providing transportation for our residents:

• Provide proof of up to date Driver’s License and all necessary insurance coverages.
• Execute a confidentiality agreement and a Driver’s agreement
• Provide a waiver allowing us to request a 3 year Driver’s abstract from the Ministry of Transportation.
• Provide a minimum of three references per adult applicant.  This will include contact with any residential agency with whom the applicant has been involved.
• Participate in training and orientation as required.
